Dai Ban is a visual artist, grew up in Tokyo Japan. He holds BFA in sculpture from Musashino Art University in Tokyo. Ban came to Brooklyn NY in 80', working as a modelmaker for TV, magazine, and film industry. After he relocated to the Berkshire MA for a film project and fell in love living in rural area surrounded by nature and settled there. At the young age Ban started working with his hands. He chose clay over toys, drawings over reading books. When he was in the third grade he witnessed his grand father made a perfectly constructed beautiful bird cage made out of one section of bamboo using few hand tools he owned, since then Ban realized anything is possible. Ban hesitates to limit what kind of art he does. He does making jewelry, scenic designs, ceramics, figurative sculptures, abstract sculptures, video images, photography and open to all kind ofart. Since last summer Ban is working on new body of works on sculptures, forms with contours couldn’t resist dtouchingconsidering his work has been consisted with straight lines and flat planes for last 10 years, Ban is very excited creating sculptures forming porcelain clay and curving rigid high density form with rediscovered contours.
