Cindy Chandler-Guy

Like many people people, Cindy's life's journey has been filled with many twists and turns, but art and psychology have always been two distinct but essential passions...the two rivers that run through her....

She has an BS and a Masters in Studio Art from NYU...her focus at the time was sculpture and  photography. However, she had always wanted to be a psychotherapist, so she moved to the Pioneer Valley in 1971 to pursue a doctorate psychology. By the time the first semester came, she had become immersed in pottery and became one of the founding, original members of the Asparagus Valley Potters Guild. Though self-taught, she built a business making and selling a line of functional stoneware to 150 stores across the country. Over the years, however, her desire to pursue a career in psychology persisted so while continuing to produce pottery and run the business, she earned her MSW and has spent the next several decades as a psychotherapist. Along the way, in order to integrate her passion for art back into her life, she began taking watercolor classes and renting studio space in the Arts and Industry Building at 221 Pine Street in Florence, Ma.. Over the years she has explored other mediums and for the past number of years has been focusing on creating pastels and monotypes /monotype collages. She continues to have a small caseload of clients that she sees for therapy and has the delicate but luscious balance of having both passions in her  life.
